If you are going to saltwater flyfish , or fish in any tidal stretch of a river it will be worth checking out the tide times.
Fishing for some species such as bass will be more productive when the water is moving. Venues vary greatly as to whether the flood or ebb is best, so do make the effort to find out at your chosen location.
You may also find that some venues are unfishable on a spring or neap tide, so again making the effort to do some background work can turn a good fishing break into a memorable one.
On my local river, I have found that the sea trout move into the pools on a flood tide, but are more eager to have a go at the fly when the tide is dropping back, maybe because they hunker down in the faster current and protect their domain - who knows?
Anyhow, I have placed a link above to a really good tidal predictions website which I use regularly. There are easy to read charts and printer friendly versions of your tide times for just about every port in the UK and Ireland . You can print one off and pop it in your tackle bag before you go on your trip... |
