Launched in February 2003 carrentals.co.uk is a new car rental booking portal, designed for both leisure and business travellers.

Through agreements with service partners including Alamo, Hertz, Budget, Thrifty and Europcar, carrentals.co.uk offers customers a choice of over 4,000 rental locations worldwide, giving it a reach comparable with major rivals.

Travellers visiting the website www.carrentals.co.uk can use the booking facility to instantly check rental prices from all of the featured service partners, before progressing to online booking of the preferred car and rate.

Car rental, the largest and best known of  Hertz' activities, is conducted from approximately 1,900 locations in the United States and from approximately 5,100 international locations.

Hertz offers a wide variety of current-model cars on a short-term rental basis -- daily, weekly or monthly -- at airports, in both urban and suburban business centres,  residential areas and resort locations.

Car Rental

When planning a holiday, one of the most important considerations is transport. How do you get there, by what means, and more importantly, how are you going to get around once you’re there?

Hiring a vehicle when on holiday has become increasingly popular. It takes away the hassle of local transport in unfamiliar places and languages and provides the freedom of the open road. For anglers this can be increasingly important, enabling the carriage of clothing, tackle, and of course rods, around a holiday destination for greater exploration and adventure.

Increased availability and the internet have helped the car rental market soar. Most major airports and train stations have car rental offices, so if you’ve forgotten to book beforehand the opportunity is still available. The internet offers a plethora of car hire possibilities; whether it’s hiring a small saloon for the narrow lanes of Kerry, a camper van to tour the Scottish Highlands, or if you are looking for adventure, a Land Rover for that real get-away-from-it-all experience, the internet will be able to find you a company who can!

The huge variety of companies on offer can be daunting, but with some forward thinking and research, it enables you to find the most competitive and appropriate price and vehicle for your holiday.

Fly Fishing Breaks helpful hints:

1) Remember to bring the licences of all those planning to drive the car – no licence, no car! Also, remember to lodge any additional drivers with the car hire company before you drive away

2) If you rent at an airport, an additional airport tax/surcharge will be included in your cost. Check for off-airport car hire companies as their rates could be more favourable. Some companies will also do drop offs and pick ups from your accommodation

3) Before you leave the car hire company, take a walk around the car and make a note with the representative, of any bumps, dents or scratches. Otherwise, when you drop the car off you could be liable for these repairs if they believe you were responsible

4) Find the fuel cap! Make sure you know which side it is and how to take it off. You don’t want the embarrassment of being stuck on the petrol forecourt and not being able to fill your car up. Also check which type of fuel the car runs best on and the fuel refilling policy. Some cars are rented empty to empty, so make sure you have enough petrol to get to the next filling station

5) Beware of extra charges! Most companies will add levies for returning the car late, insurance excess, additional drivers and mileage. So read the small print before you drive away, so you will not pay more on your return

6) Ensure you have the appropriate equipment to attach your rods to the car. There are some terrific magnetic gadgets which make it so much easier to move between beats

Travel by Air

There are many airlines offering fantastic rates if you book early enough. You might want to check availability of air travel to your chosen destination before you book your break. I have placed a link above to one of the UK's best value airlines for local airports.

Fly Fishing Breaks helpful hints:

1) Have you a container which will prevent damage to your rods and tackle? There's a great variety out there. I use a golf club hard case when I fly, which accomodates everything, including my waders!

2) Do the airline charge extra for sports equipment? It is irritating when you get to the airport and find theres a levy. Sometimes when you add all the extras, cheap flights are not all they're cracked up to be, so its worth checking this out prior to booking

3) What is the weight limit on the luggage? This can vary between airlines, and the surcharges are quite steep. Again, one to check prior to booking

4) Have you arranged your parking? When you book your flight, visit this the links at the top of this page for further information

5) Have you arranged transport from the airport to your chosen destination? See above for information and links to car hire companies

Travel by Sea

Ferries operate throughout the British Isles, offering a way of getting to your final destination by car. This can be advantageous from a tackle point of view. Airlines can charge a levy for sports equipment, but ferry companies will only charge for the car and up to four passengers. The link above will give you access to good rates with all the UK and Ireland ferry companies.

Fly Fishing Breaks helpful hints:

1) Have you informed your insurance company that you will be taking the car by ferry to another country? Most times, within the European Union there is no additional charge, but you must inform them either way

2) Do you have a suitable roof carrier? Roof bags are a really good alternative to hard roof carriers

3) Inform the ferry company that you will be attaching a roof carrier to your car
